Once Mallorca, always Mallorca.
If not now when?

I had the opportunity to do an interview with Claudia and Stefan from the puppy station El Paraiso in Es Llomard, Mallorca. The two have given me in a very sympathetic and authentic way an insight into their greatest hobby. In addition, they also gave me useful hints about emigrating to Spain. A great and inspiring story that the two have to tell.

Are you still looking for something that excites you, be it a job or a hobby that you really like and are passionate about? I would like to take you with me on my journey showing different lifestyle inspiration videos. These will give you an insight into the life stories of people who tell you about their work with a sparkle in their eyes.

When I was at Claudia and Stefan’s finca, I got exactly this impression. Wow, that’s a great story to pass on. Of course, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to do such a commitment for animals part-time. But it doesn’t have to be exactly this idea. In each of us there are talents and interests, which one must only permit and notice. Even if that is not always easy in an everyday life to get rid of all the things that still have to be done. Nevertheless, one should ask oneself whether finding out one’s own passion is not actually much more important.

How to actually change something?

If you think about your life and about the way your life is going, are you feeling satisfied? Or do you feel trapped in a repetitive everyday life? Are you maybe talking to people or listing to others while they are telling you to design the life you want to live and the person you want to be? You might ask yourself if there is a truth in the statement that says YOU are responsible for how your life looks like and YOU can also influence the direction. That is maybe also the hardest part of it, but change is actually a chance you are self responsible to do so. That is the reason why change and self-responsibility belong together.

There is nobody who creates your life, there might be coincidences which seem to sometimes give you a direction, but in the end it is you to decide which way to go and how to behave. If you are totally satisfied about your personality, you did an excellent job. But maybe there are also personal characteristics you would like to change.

I give you one example which shows self-responsibility is working:

You have a restrained character, you like to be with people, but you are not the person who openly says what you like and what you think. Mostly others are louder and faster explaining their thoughts and you subordinate yourself to these persons and opinions. When you then have a calm moment, you come home from work, you realize that you actually think differently. You are angry about yourself why you didn’t say anything, because you feared the reaction of others.

Good news, you definitely can change this behavior. Determine things that are important for you and should be part of your life. What do you think about these things? Experience shows you in which life situations you were happy and when not. What did fit together and what did not? From this you can draw your own conclusions. If you really want to change yourself, you can do so. By always behaving differently as you wish. You can start with small changes and look how it goes.

How can you finally change something?

In my example you could start with telling your opinion in a familiar environment, being with family or friends. Decide for yourself in advance which results you want to have out of this conversation and then dare and say your honest opinion loud and confident. Now the interesting part is coming, you will see the reaction of your conversation partner. They might be surprised because they didn’t expect your behavior, but this reaction mostly doesn’t reflect your opinion itself. Your mind will learn this and point it as a good experience. Even if your conversation partner has a different opinion, you will feel relieved as you shared your point of view this time as well. There is nothing you can regret afterwards.  At some point the mind remembers and sees this action as normality.

There is a solution – combining willingness to change and self-responsibility:

You can train your mind like a muscle. I really liked the chapter in the book individuation*. New experiences overwrite the old fears or actions. This concludes in a positive cycle: the goals lead to a change in behavior, the changed behavior influences the self concept, the changed self concept in turn causes further behavior changes. While doing this it is important to set realistic goals, otherwise it takes the opposite direction. Try it out with simple actions you always wanted to change. The advise is to follow these changes over 21 days, every day you train your muscle. It can also be helpful to integrate it in your daily routine, every day at the same time and location. You would need to try out what fits the best for you. After the 21 days you will experience if the change feels good and you want to keep it. As I said at the beginning, if you are doing well and you are happy as you are, there is no reason to change. But if the pressure of suffering is too high or the curiosity for change grows, there is the possibility to change your personality. That are really good news, don’t you think? Keep in mind that change and self-responsibility belong together, now it is time to get started.

You might stumble across this blog and wonder what this is all about. First of all, I would like to make clear that the content for designing your life of this blog is written from my own perspective. Of course, there are many ways and methods of organizing and designing your life, these are just examples I have tried and they have worked very well for me. The main thing is that you start to actively think about your goals in life. This blog is only meant to be an assistance to hopefully make it easier for you to get started.

I do not believe in anything spiritual, I believe that the key to any action is ourselves. We humans are able to achieve a lot, we are all individuals, and each one has his or her uniqueness. Once you have found your passion, you will definitely lead a different life than before

Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift. Oprah Winfrey

The fishermen and the manager

So starting here, do you really believe that you exist as a human being with the goal of going to work every day, earning money and falling into bed exhausted? Do you do this in order to have time for your family and friends at the weekend, to go an holiday or to buy a car, a house, a pet or whatever? All this is understandable, the important thing is that you do this job because you like it. You wake up in the morning and can’t wait to start the day. If this is not the case, please read on. Perhaps you have already heard about the story of the fisherman and the manager. I like the statement of this anecdote very much. Our life is too short to spend it only with work and things you feel you have to do.

Does designing your life matter for you?

Why not think about what really inspires and motivates you? What makes you feel really good about yourself? What do you enjoy and what relaxes you? It does not matter how old you are, the important thing is to start thinking about your life and answer all these questions that may be on your mind. No, don’t start to say to yourself: ”Yes, I will, as soon as I have some free time.” Start now, remember that you only have one life, and to live that life fully is the main goal that each of us is striving for.

You might already heard about the little story of the fisherman and the businessman. If you didn’t go ahead, it is also worth to read it a second time.

How to lead a happy life?

A businessman was on holiday in a small fishing village, he watched one afternoon as a small fishing boat docked at the port. Seeing the high quality of the fish, the businessman asked the fisherman how long he had spent out at sea that day. â€œA few hours.” answered the fisherman.

“Then, why didn’t you stay out all day and catch more?” asked the businessman. The fisherman told him that his small catch was enough to feed him and his family. The businessman asked, “So what do you do the rest of the time?”

“I sleep late, make love to my wife, play with my kids and have an afternoon’s rest in my garden hammock. In the evenings, I go into the pub to see my friends, have a couple of beers, shoot some pool, and sing a few songs
I have a full and happy life.” replied the fisherman.

The idea of the businessman

The businessman ventured, “I have an MBA and work for a top management consultancy – I think, in fact I know I can help you
You should start by fishing much longer every day and recruit some help. You can then sell the additional fish you catch and with the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat. A larger boat will allow you to catch more and expand your business to two or three boats until you have the largest fleet on the island. Instead of selling your fish at the harbor, you can negotiate directly with the major fish distributors and perhaps open your own plant. You can then leave this village and move your entire operation to the mainland and build a huge company.

“How long would that take?” asked the fisherman.

“Done right, no more than ten years.” replied the businessman.

“And then what?” asked the fisherman.

“After that? You could acquire other companies, grow a massive organization and finally float or sell your company and make millions!”

“Millions? Wow? And after that?” queried the fisherman.

“After that you’ll be able to retire, move to the islands, sleep late, make love to your wife, play with your grandkids and have an afternoon’s rest. In the evenings, you could shoot the breeze with friends and have a full and happy life.”

The businessman looked at the fisherman, the fisherman stared back. “Why should I go this extra mile as I have all of this already now?” the fisherman looked questioningly at the businessman.

A happy and satisfactory life is not only about earning money. Of course, you need money to survive, but still life is not just about making money. This story of the fisherman and the businessman got me thinking, I hope you like it too. Let’s start to design your own life!
